The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a national program established to honor veterans of all services. Its goal is to cover all physically and psychologically wounded service members with a freedom quilt, honoring them for their services. The movement started in 2003 and has spread throughout the United States.
The Canyon Lake Quilters group participates in the movement every year by creating a Quilts of Valor quilt and raffling it off in a free raffle for veterans.
The raffle is typically held during the city’s Veterans Day Celebration in the Towne Center. This year, the raffle was held during the Senior Center Holiday Boutique with the winning ticket pulled at the end of the two-day event.
This year’s winner is Frances Casey, who served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1970.
The Canyon Lake Quilters is made up of a group of women who meet to work on their quilting projects on the first Wednesday of every month at the Canyon Lake Senior Center.
