Canyon Lake Fire Department launches free home smoke detector testing

The Canyon Lake Fire Department will be offering free home smoke detector testing for Canyon Lake residents beginning in November. As part of this initiative, if the detector requires new batteries, the department will replace them at no cost.

The program aims to enhance community safety by encouraging the proper installation and maintenance of smoke alarms in every household.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, roughly three out of five home fire deaths occur in homes with no or non-working smoke alarms. When working smoke alarms are present in the home, the risk of dying in a home fire is cut by 60 percent, according to the latest National Fire Prevention Association research.

Beginning November 1, Residents can call the fire station at 951-335-9771 to arrange for an inspection or schedule an inspection online at http://www.canyonlakeca.gov/clfd.
