Kim and Scott Pauley transformed their Canyon Lake home into a Disney Haunted Mansion-themed tour, creating a haunting Halloween experience that drew more than 1,000 visitors across two weekends.
This home haunt starts in the Stretching Room, followed by a guided backyard tour featuring fan-favorite elements such as the eerie Bride’s Attic complete with a living Constance Hatchaway, Madame Leota, a talking crystal ball, a chilling pet cemetery, and other iconic characters such as the notorious Hatbox Ghost, the headless medieval soldier, the caretaker and Bones the dog, and hitchhiking ghosts.
Adding to the thrill, the Pauleys recruited local teens as jump-scare actors to leap out from the darkness to frighten guests. These extra characters helped to bring the haunted vision to life.
The Pauleys began their Halloween displays in 2021 with a simple graveyard, but it has grown considerably. In 2023, it evolved into a fully immersive walkthrough experience for all ages. For younger guests, the tour is adjusted to provide a low level of fright, ensuring a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone.
On the final day, the Pauleys offered free refreshments like candy, popcorn, cotton candy, and hot chocolate.
In addition to the free tour, the Pauleys organized a raffle featuring Haunted Mansion-themed items, raising $884, which they generously donated to the nonprofit Mermaids of Canyon Lake Club.
Months of planning and hundreds of hours went into creating an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
On November 1, the Pauleys will begin the tedious task of tearing down their Haunted Mansion theme in their backyard and setting up their infamous, award-winning gingerbread house-themed displayed in their front yard.
“All the smiles on the faces of both kids and adults alike make all of the effort worth it,” Kim said. “Thank you to the scare staff volunteers and Mermaids Club volunteers who helped make this experience possible for the community. We hope to bring the Haunted Mansion to life again next year.”
