Canyon Lake fire chief presents department report for October

During the November 13 meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse presented the Canyon Lake Fire Department’s report for the month of October.

The department responded to 83 calls in October: two fire responses, 56 rescue/EMS incidents, three service calls, 16 good intent calls, one hazard call, and five false alarms.

The department responded to a one-acre brush fire on October 29 on Railroad Canyon Road and a two-acre brush fire on October 31 in Meadowbrook.

The average dispatch to en route response time was 1.00 minutes, en route to arrival time was 5.15 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 6.15 minutes. These times represent the average of all CODE 3 EMS responses in the city. They do not include auto/mutual aid incidents.

The 90 percent fractile dispatch to en route response time was 1.38 minutes, en route to arrival time was 7.40 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 8:42 minutes.

Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to four incidents in the City of Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake engines responded to nine incidents outside the city. All nine responses were in the City of Lake Elsinore.

The department logged a total of 317.78 training hours in October, with training focused on mass casualty, forcible entry, emergency vehicle operators, pump theory and hydraulics, driver/operator, robe rescue operations, and new battalion chief orientation.

In addition, the department hosted an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, with shared costs and coordination with Calimesa Fire and Placentia Fire and Rescue. The course was 16 hours in duration, and students received state certification. All Canyon Lake firefighters completed the training, along with six Calimesa firefighters and 17 Placentia firefighters.

Public outreach included State of the City, Car Show, City’s Golf Tournament, Little League Opening Day, Rocktoberfest, City’s Pumpkin Bash, Parade of Frights, and Fire Prevention Week activities.
