Continuing its commitment to community service, the Canyon Lake Yacht Club donated Thanksgiving dinners to six young mothers transitioning out of foster care and into independent living.
These young mothers, who are navigating the challenging journey from foster care to independent living, received the much-needed support in time for the holiday season.
Each dinner included a turkey donated by a local charity and all the traditional fixings donated by the Canyon Lake Yacht Club.
“The donations were funded by a former resident and Yacht Club member who misappropriated club funds and was court-ordered to provide restitution,” Yacht Club Commodore Rob Mora said. “The club chose to turn a negative into a positive by funding this donation with the restitution funds the club received thus far.”
The recipients of these dinners are part of a program designed to help young mothers who have aged out of the foster care system build independent lives. Many face obstacles such as securing stable housing, finding employment, and raising their children without a strong support network. The Thanksgiving dinner donations serve as a reminder that they are not alone in their journey.
This initiative is just one of the ways the Canyon Lake Yacht Club gives back.
The Yacht Club was established in 1990 by Canyon Lake residents who enjoyed time on the lake. The club maintains a busy social calendar, bringing members together for dinners, sunset cruises, and other recreation. The club also hosts Canyon Lake’s iconic Parade of Lights holiday boat parade and gives back to the community through its student scholarship program.
