During the December 11 meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse presented the Canyon Lake Fire Department’s report for the month of November.
The department responded to 100 calls in November: four fire responses, 67 rescue/EMS incidents, eight service calls, 14 good intent calls, five false alarms, and two calls not reported.
On November 6, the department deployed Engine 201 for six days to the Mountain Fire in Ventura County. On November 16, the department responded to an outside fire in Meadowbrook and a fire in Canyon Lake near the jump lagoon. On November 30, the department responded to a palm tree fire in the 22200 block of Pinto Drive in the City of Canyon Lake.
The average dispatch to en route response time was 0.53 minutes, en route to arrival time was 4.58 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 5.51 minutes. These times represent the average of all CODE 3 EMS responses in the city. They do not include auto/mutual aid incidents.
The 90 percent fractile dispatch to en route response time was 1.28 minutes, en route to arrival time was 7.37 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 8.21 minutes.
Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to eight incidents in the City of Canyon Lake in November. Canyon Lake engines responded to 12 incidents outside the city. They include eight in Lake Elsinore, two in Menifee, one in Good Hope, and one in Ventura County.
The department logged 195.43 hours of training in November. The training focused on emergency vehicle operators, pump theory and hydraulics, driver/operator, wildland interface, hose evolutions, simulations on commercial fires, engineer testing, and tower training.
Public outreach included participation in the Senior Center Holiday Boutique, Veteran’s Day Celebration, Turkey Drive, and the Crafton Hills College Career Day.
On Saturday, December 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the department will be hosting its 2nd Annual Donuts with Santa event at the fire station, featuring free donuts, hot cocoa, crafts, face painting, and pictures with Santa, The department is also participating in the Spark of Love Toy Drive and is collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys.
