For the second consecutive year, Yard Fresh, a pet waste management company based in Canyon Lake, organized a Blanket Drive to support Animal Friends of the Valleys. In the spirit of giving, the drive took place throughout November.
Owners Monica and Troy Lyons spearheaded the initiative, placing donation bins at about a dozen businesses across Southwest Riverside County and encouraging community members to donate new or gently used blankets and quilts.
Their effort extended to a partnership with the City of Canyon Lake, where blankets were also collected during the city’s annual Turkey Drive.
Their combined efforts resulted in an impressive haul that includes 131 bags of blankets, two carriers, 10 dog beds, eight food bowls, four cat scratchers, a dog ramp, 200 pounds of dry cat food, four boxes of wet cat food, 250 pounds of cat litter, 10 bags of toys and accessories, and other items such at vitamins and pet wipes.
Their contributions were delivered to Animal Friends of the Valleys, benefitting countless animals in need.
“As a dog company, our goal is to make every dog comfortable and happy,” Monica said. “This event hits deep for us. It pulls at our heartstrings. Keeping the dogs at Animal Friends of the Valleys comfortable and feeling loved while they are waiting for their forever home is a proud moment for us.”
Monica says the support of the community allows their company to give back. “Thank you to the community,” she said. “We are a strong small business because of you. That strength allows us to give back and support others in their times of need.”
