Menifee police officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle traffic collision near the intersection of Highway 74 and Trumble Avenue early Sunday morning, around 6 a.m. The accident involved a small compact vehicle that collided with a traffic pole and caught on fire.
According to the Menifee Police Department’s news release, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies and citizens who were first on the scene assisted in pulling the driver out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed. The driver was transported to a medical facility for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The Menifee Police Department assumed the investigation and determined that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the collision. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle driving at a fast speed, the department said. It is believed that the driver may have fallen asleep which resulted in the collision, the news release stated.
Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact Officer Sims with the Menifee Police Traffic Unit at 951-723-1645.
