During the January 8, 2025, meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, Fire Chief Jeff LaTendresse presented the Canyon Lake Fire Department’s report for December 2024.
The department responded to 87 calls in December: five fire responses, 58 rescue/EMS incidents, six service calls, 13 good intent calls, and five false alarms/false calls.
The fire responses include an oven fire on December 9 in the 31000 block of Emperor Drive, an outside fire with mulch burning in the center divider on December 10 at Big Tee Drive and Railroad Canyon Road, a tree fire on December 11 in the 22300 block of Whirlaway Court, a trash truck fire on December 26 in the 23200 block of Canyon Lake Drive South, and a suspicious construction debris fire on December 26 on an empty lot in the 30000 block of Windward Drive.
The average dispatch to en route response time was 0.45 minutes, en route to arrival time was 5.16 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 6.06 minutes. These times represent the average of all CODE 3 EMS responses in the city. They do not include auto/mutual aid incidents.
The 90 percent fractile dispatch to en route response time was 1.12 minutes, en route to arrival time was 7.34 minutes, and dispatch to arrival time was 8.23 minutes.
Riverside County/Cal Fire responded to six incidents in the City of Canyon Lake. Canyon Lake engines responded to 10 incidents outside the city. They include four in Lake Elsinore, four in Meadowbrook, and two in Menifee.
The department logged 314.78 hours of training in December.
Public outreach included participation in the POA’s Tree Lighting Festival, City’s Winter Wonderland, Spark of Love Toy Drive, Golf Cart Parade, Ski Club’s Cookies with Santa, and the department’s Donuts with Santa event.
