During the January 8 meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, Captain James Rayls of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department presented the 2024 fourth quarterly crime stats for Canyon Lake.
There were 388 calls for service in October, an average of 12.5 calls per day. Five aggravated assaults, one burglary, six larcenies, and two vehicle thefts were reported. Deputies responded to 15 traffic collisions, issued one traffic citation, and made one DUI arrest. Overall, five felony and six misdemeanor arrests were made in October. The average response times were 8.90 minutes for a Priority 1 call, 15.93 minutes for a Priority 2 call, 36.29 minutes for a Priority 3 call, and 49.86 for a Priority 4 call.
There were 345 calls for service in November, an average of 11.5 calls per day. Three aggravated assaults, one burglary, and two larcenies were reported. Deputies responded to seven traffic collisions, issued five traffic citations, and made two DUI arrests. Overall, four felony and three misdemeanor arrests were made in November. The average response times were 7.01 minutes for a Priority 1 call, 16.41 minutes for a Priority 2 call, 45.40 minutes for a Priority 3 call, and 35.88 for a Priority 4 call.
There were 432 calls for service in December, an average of 13.9 calls per day. One aggravated assault and five larcenies were reported. Deputies responded to nine traffic collisions, issued four traffic citations, and made two DUI arrests. Overall, two felony and one misdemeanor arrests were made in December. The average response times were 9.07 minutes for a Priority 1 call, 15.37 minutes for a Priority 2 call, 44.08 minutes for a Priority 3 call, and 25.82 for a Priority 4 call.
Priority 1 calls involve threats to human life or property, which involve a high level of violence or serious injury. Priority 2 calls pose or did pose an immediate threat to human life or property. Priority 3 calls include circumstances that are neither urgent nor life-threatening. Priority 4 calls involve fraud, burglaries, and thefts not in progress. Most past calls are considered a Priority 4.
