During the January 8 meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council, Monica Lyons was honored as Citizen of the Month for her outstanding contributions to animal welfare.

The council, as well as representatives from Animals Friends of the Valleys, honored Lyons for organizing a blanket drive to support the shelter animals at Animal Friends of the Valleys.
Throughout November, Lyons placed donation bins at about a dozen businesses across Southwest Riverside County and encouraged community members to donate new or gently used blankets and quilts. She also partnered with the city to collect pet supplies during the city’s Turkey Drive.
The initiative resulted in an impressive collection that included more than 130 bags of blankets, two carriers, 10 dog beds, four cat scratchers, a dog ramp, 200 pounds of dry cat food, four boxes of wet cat food, 250 pounds of cat litter, 10 bags of toys and accessories, and other items such at vitamins, pet wipes, and food bowls.
Lyons’ efforts highlight the power of community collaboration. Her commitment to environmental responsibility and animal welfare shines through in this initiative, proving that small acts of kindness can collectively create a significant impact.
