A peaceful protest opposing immigration policies turned unlawful when individuals began throwing objects at deputies on Monday in the City of Perris.
Protesters gathered at several intersections along Perris Boulevard on the morning of January 3. With the assistance of California Highway Patrol officers, Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies monitored the protests throughout the day to ensure the community’s safety.
The crowd size peaked at approximately 500 individuals, and the protests remained peaceful until about 6 p.m. when some individuals began throwing rocks and bottles at law enforcement. At that point, authorities declared the assembly unlawful and ordered the crowd to disperse.
Four individuals were arrested for obstruction, while two others were taken into custody for assault with a deadly weapon. No injuries were reported.
