During the meeting of the Canyon Lake City Council on February 12, Captain James Rayls of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department presented the 2024 Annual Crime Report for the City of Canyon Lake.
The report highlighted 4,647 calls for service throughout the year. Deputies issued 140 citations and made 132 arrests. Arrests included 15 drunk/public, 14 for domestic violence, three for theft, two for burglary 30 for warrants, one for robbery, six for assault, two for sex crimes, four for trespassing, seven for drug-related offenses, 28 for driving under the influence (DUI), and 20 for miscellaneous offenses.
Traffic-related incidents included 88 total collisions, categorized as 12 injury collisions, 46 non-injury collisions, and 30 hit-and-runs.
The report also details 19 violent crimes, comprising seven sex crimes, 1 robbery, and 11 aggravated assaults, reflecting an increase from 17 violent crimes reported the previous year.
Property crime totaled 90 incidents, including nine burglaries, 68 larcenies, one vehicle arson, and 12 auto thefts.
Twenty-four cases were assigned to the Investigations Bureau. Of those cases, 19 were closed, eight arrests were made, and five warrants were issued.
Twenty-three cases were referred to the Community Behavioral Health Assessment Team.
The Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras read an average of 21,325 license plates per day on Railroad Canyon Road, resulting in an average of eight daily alerts, five arrests, and 12 investigations.
The average response time from call to arrival was 8.4 minutes for priority 1 calls, 22.7 minutes for priority two calls, 41.4 minutes for priority three calls, and 40.5 minutes for priority four calls.
The average response time from dispatch to arrival was 6.8 minutes for priority one calls, 12.4 for priority two calls, 15.7 minutes for priority three calls, and 15.1 for priority four calls.
