Vehicle stop in Menifee leads to discovery of drugs, firearms

A traffic stop in the City of Menifee led to the discovery of more than 100 pounds of marijuana and several unregistered guns.

The traffic stop was conducted near Ethanac Road and Tyler Avenue for a vehicle code violation. The male driver initially provided false identification, according to the Menifee Police Department. After being positively identified, it was determined he had a felony warrant for drug and firearm charges.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 76 pounds of marijuana. A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence uncovered an additional 51 pounds of marijuana, an unregistered shotgun, two unregistered handguns, a large-capacity drum magazine, multiple handgun magazines, and ammunition.

In the backyard, authorities found numerous caged roosters and evidence of illegal cockfighting. Animal Control personnel responded, took custody of the birds, and is pursuing 22 additional felony charges for animal cruelty.

The suspect was arrested for the warrant, four additional felonies, and one misdemeanor charge.
