Twenty-seven participants successfully completed a three-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training workshop, hosted by the Canyon Lake Fire Department and the City of Canyon Lake and led by an instructor from the Riverside County Emergency Management Department.
The CERT program is designed to educate community members on disaster preparedness and train them in basic emergency response techniques.
Throughout the workshop, attendees learned essential disaster response skills, including using a fire extinguisher, performing search and rescue operations, and lifting heavy objects using cribbing. The training emphasized personal preparedness so participants could protect themselves and assist others.
“I learned a lot of disaster safety tips,” participant Sue Collins said. “The simulated earthquake drill was very educational and made us aware of the different scenarios of a natural disaster.
Each participant received a backpack filled with emergency safety supplies. Upon completion of the three-day workshop, they were awarded a certificate of completion.
The CERT program plays a crucial role in strengthening community resilience by equipping residents with the skills and tools necessary to respond to disasters.
