Deputies from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station responded to a distress call reporting multiple motorists trapped in their vehicles due to severe mudslides on Soboba Road between the Soboba Springs Country Club and State Street in the City of San Jacinto.
On the evening of March 13, the department received reports that several motorists were unable to move their vehicles as mudslides overtook the road. In response, deputies, along with the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, Cal Fire personnel, and assistance from the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, mobilized to rescue those stranded.
With the assistance of the Cal Fire’s Swift Water Rescue Team, six motorists were safely rescued from their vehicles. Several tow trucks were used to remove vehicles from the mud and off the roadway.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Soboba Road are closed between the entrance of the Soboba Springs Country Club and State Street. Full closures of Soboba Road are expected until the mud and debris are cleared from the roadway.
Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and stay updated on road conditions.
