The Canyon Lake City Council recognized Fire Captain Tim O’Marra for his unwavering dedication to the Canyon Lake Fire Department’s kitchen remodel project, which has been underway since January.
A founding member of the department and a resident of Canyon Lake for nearly five years, O’Marra stepped up to lead the renovation effort, devoting countless hours.
The project, now in its final stages with just a few finishing touches remaining, has been a true labor of love. Under O’Marra’s direction, the firehouse kitchen has undergone a full floor-to-ceiling transformation. His work included drywall, flooring, cabinetry, electrical upgrades, countertops, and a new water heater, to name a few.
O’Marra was grateful for the opportunity to lend his skills to the fire station he serves. “Thank you very much for the opportunity to let me do this job and show my talents—what I’m good at doing and what I’ve learned how to do in my tenure before becoming a fire captain,” he said. “I have a hard time accepting this award without thanking all the guys who helped me do this.”
O’Marra praised the team effort that made the remodel possible, giving special thanks to his fellow firefighters John Sassy, Nate Garcia, Chico Sanchez, and James Sanchez. “Everybody in the Canyon Lake Fire Department had a huge hand in putting this together, and I couldn’t have done this without every one of us working together,” O’Marra said. In addition to his fellow firefighters, O’Marra also thanked his father, who pitched in while visiting on vacation.
“As many of you know, we’ve been living without a kitchen for two and a half months,” O’Marra shared. “But we got through all the drywall and created a long-term space we can all be proud of and enjoy. I hope everyone shows up at the open house to see what we did—and see what we can do together as a team.”
Thanks to Captain O’Marra’s skills and leadership, and the collective effort of the Canyon Lake Fire Department, the new kitchen stands as a testament to community, collaboration, and commitment to excellence.
