The Canyon Lake Water Ski Club is hosting its May Open sanctioned tournament on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, at the north ski area.

The tournament starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday with a flag salute and music as the first boat makes its pass through the slalom course, flying the American flag.

The club welcomes spectators to witness impressive performances by regional and national water ski champions, ranging in age from eight to 75. A large screen television at the pavilion will provide close-up views of the slalom and trick skiing events, capturing all the behind-the-boat action.

Around noon, the event will shift to the jump lagoon on Longhorn Drive, where spectators can enjoy exciting jump skiing, which will be visible from the street.

On Sunday at 8 a.m. at the north ski area, there will be another round of slalom skiing, followed by trick skiing.

As one of the first organized clubs in Canyon Lake, the Canyon Lake Water Ski Club has established itself as one of the nation’s most successful ski clubs through hosting numerous sanctioned tournaments, producing world-class certified waterski officials, and being the home to world, national, and regional champions.
