The Canyon Lake POA Board of Directors has adopted an emergency resolution temporarily prohibiting the riding of e-bikes and personal electronic vehicles at the Canyon Lake Lodge and Holiday Harbor Park for the next 60 days, effective immediately.
The decision comes in response to an uptick in issues related to personal electronic vehicles throughout the community. According to the POA, large groups of e-bike riders have been gathering in specific areas, especially around holidays, leading to safety concerns and disruption of common areas.
The temporary ban covers the following locations:
- Canyon Lake Lodge, including the parking lot
- Canyon Club Drive, west of Lighthouse Drive
- Holiday Harbor Park, including the parking lot and the launch ramp.
During this period, e-bikes and personal electronic vehicles may only be walked through these areas—riding is strictly prohibited.
The POA stated that the resolution was necessary to support the POA’s obligations to maintain common areas and for the welfare of the community.
The 60-day restriction is effective immediately. The board will continue to monitor the situation and determine whether further action is needed at the end of the temporary enforcement period.
The POA rules state the following:
- The maximum speed limit for e-bikes is 20 mph.
- All electric bicycles must be registered with the POA.
- All electric bicycles ridden on Canyon Lake streets or common areas after sunset and/or before sunrise must be equipped with headlights and taillights and have them turned on.
- Only one rider per seat or floorboard on all personal electric devices.
- No reckless or unsafe riding (weaving through traffic, running stop signs, double-riding, use of cellular devices, excessive speed, wheelies, going against traffic, etc.) on any personal electric device.
- Electric bicycles must be equipped with functional pedals and pedal-assist functionality.
- All riders must yield to Community Patrol when requested. This includes any personal electric device and regular bicycles, scooters, skateboards, etc.
Members are encouraged to always accompany their guests throughout the community. Should a guest violate any of the existing Canyon Lake POA rules listed in GR.2.0 through GR.2.23 in a member’s absence, an additional fine will be incurred. This fine will increase on holidays and holiday weekends (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day).
