The Temescal Canyon High School Titan Engineering and Technology Academy received a $20,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation.
The Gene Haas Foundation was established by Gene Haas, the founder and CEO of Haas Automation Inc., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of machine tools for manufacturing and engineering. Over the past 10 years, the Gene Haas Foundation has donated more than $200,000 to support the Titan Engineering and Technology Academy.
This year, Titan Engineering and Technology Academy awarded $11,000 in scholarships, funded by the Gene Haas Foundation, to senior engineering students.
The Titan Engineering and Technology Academy is a specialized program that integrates math, science, and engineering coursework to prepare students for advanced study and careers in engineering. Currently, the program serves 256 students across grades 9 through 12.
Students can earn college credit while in the program, as well as several professional certifications. Students also participate in job shadowing and internships, tour engineering companies, complete a senior design project, and sit for mock interviews during their senior year.
While mechanical engineering is the most popular major among graduates, the program has produced future professionals in nearly every engineering discipline.
Alumni of the program have gone on to attend some of the nation’s top engineering universities, including MIT, Caltech, Cal Poly, UCLA, UC San Diego, Purdue University, every one of the military service academies, and Columbia University, to name a few.
The program’s success is further bolstered by partnerships with major industry leaders, including Collins Aerospace, Toyota Racing Development, Absolute Technologies Inc., Rocket Lab, and King Racing Shocks.
With continued support from industry and philanthropic partners like the Gene Hass Foundation, the Titan Engineering and Technology Academy is shaping the next generation of engineers, innovators, and leaders.
