For Canyon Lake resident Adam Fisher, what began as a hobby has turned into a unique service that combines passion with purpose. Armed with a wetsuit, boots, mask, gloves, and a dive hood, Fisher dives beneath the surface of Canyon Lake to recover lost items—and occasionally, pieces of local history.
Fisher’s equipment includes a GoPro camera, which he uses to capture underwater footage that he often shares on social media, giving followers a glimpse into the hidden world below the lake’s surface. He also carries a dive knife to cut away entanglements, a flashlight for navigating low-visibility areas, and an underwater metal detector to help locate small metal objects such as jewelry.
Fisher started diving recreationally more than a decade ago, but it wasn’t until 2020 that he officially launched his recovery service, offering to locate lost items in local lakes. Word quickly spread around the community about his knack for finding things thought to be gone forever. Thanks to his service, items like keys, sunglasses, cell phones, and fishing poles have made their way back to grateful owners. The most expensive items he has recovered for clients include drones and an insulin pump valued at $15,000.
Fisher boasts an impressive success rate—he’s able to locate lost items in 99 percent of the cases, as long as he’s provided with a general idea of where the item went missing. “If the client knows the general area where they lost their item, I’m likely to find it,” Fisher said. “It’s always rewarding to reunite someone with something meaningful.”
Fisher charges a flat fee for recovery services and emphasizes that safety and environmental respect are always top priorities. During his dives, he’s also known to collect trash and debris, doing his part to help keep the lake clean and enjoyable for all.
Fisher recently completed a lake cleanup dive thanks to the support of Adam Hudson and Brandon Conaway of Douglas Pipeline, who financed the dive. “The objective was to remove as much trash from the lake as possible,” Fisher said. “The dive was a success. I retrieved hundreds of feet of fishing line, numerous cans and bottles, fishing lures, chairs, phones, glasses, and other items.”
Diving is in Fisher’s genes. His father, who has worked as a diver for Disney for more than 20 years, has undoubtedly influenced his career path. Additionally, Fisher collaborates with a company responsible for dredging the Finding Nemo Attraction at Disneyland every two years, bringing his skills to one of the most iconic theme parks in the world.
