A 36-year-old Menifee man, identified as Daryl Flood, died on Sunday after suffering a medical emergency while in custody.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies from the Cois Byrd Detention Center were alerted around 3:20 a.m. that an inmate was having a medical emergency in a booking area cell.
Custody staff and jail medical personnel responded and administered emergency medical assistance until paramedics arrived.
Flood was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite hospital staff’s continued life-saving efforts, Flood’s condition worsened, and he was ultimately pronounced deceased.
