The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Board of Directors recognized longtime resident Janine Schrufer as Member of the Month during Tuesday’s board meeting, celebrating her decades of dedication and service to the community.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Janine moved with her family to the Los Angeles area as a child and graduated from Lakewood High School, where she showed early leadership as president of the Girls Athletic Association.
Schrufer’s Canyon Lake journey began nearly 50 years ago when she built her first home in 1976. In 1989, Schrufer and her husband moved into their second Canyon Lake home.
Over the years, Schrufer has been active in numerous groups, including the Mexican Train group and Chair Volleyball. She is a current member of the Senior Center Work Group, where she has served for many years and in numerous roles. Since 2004, Schrufer has organized the Senior Center Christmas Dinner.
Schrufer’s commitment extended to serving on the Recreation Committee, where she was known for keeping meetings productive with her no-nonsense “drill sergeant” approach to order.
The POA Board of Directors recognized Schrufer’s long-standing dedication to volunteerism and community service, and her lasting mark on Canyon Lake.
