The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA) on Tuesday announced that the long-anticipated lighting upgrade at Gault Field has been completed, bringing safer, more efficient, and modernized facilities to the community’s baseball fields.
In April, the POA Board of Directors approved $556,824 to fund the project.
The new system is designed to improve light quality, reduce glare and light pollution, and significantly cut down on both energy use and maintenance costs. The upgrades are projected to save between $30,000 and $32,000 annually in energy and upkeep, according to the POA.
The project included replacing decades-old lighting structures. The Field 1 metal halide lighting was installed in the mid-90s, while the lighting on Field 2 dates back to the mid-80s.
The deteriorating conditions became a pressing issue earlier this year when one of the rotting light poles collapsed onto the batting cages and crushed them. No children were in the batting cages at the time of the collapse. The incident raised community concerns about the safety of the lighting and highlighted the urgent need for replacement.
With the completion of the project, Canyon Lake ball players and their families can now enjoy better visibility and safer playing conditions, while the community benefits from long-term cost savings.
