Menifee police officers screened 1,527 vehicles during a DUI Checkpoint held on September 13 between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. near the intersection of Newport Road and Murrieta Road.
During the operation, two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, two drivers were arrested for driving on a suspended license, and one individual was arrested for a felony warrant. Nine additional drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license.
The checkpoint was part of the department’s ongoing efforts to improve roadway safety and reduce impaired driving incidents in the community.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
“The Menifee Police Department is 100% committed to preventing, deterring, and arresting impaired drivers in Menifee, and will continue to be a top priority,” the department said.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
