Hemet man arrested for alleged sexual assault of juvenile met through social media

A 19-year-old Hemet man has been arrested on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

The arrest follows an investigation that began on October 23, when deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station were contacted regarding a female juvenile who reported being sexually assaulted the previous night.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the victim met the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Gerardo Moreno of Hemet, through social media and agreed to meet him in Corona. Moreno reportedly drove to her home, where the situation turned uncomfortable. When she asked him to leave, he refused and sexually assaulted her, authorities said.

On November 6, Moreno was located in the 200 block of Suffolk Street, Corona, and taken into custody. He was booked on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He is currently out of custody on a $90,000 bond. This investigation is ongoing.
