The City of Canyon Lake has presented longtime resident Mike Shroyer with the prestigious Jordan Ehrankranz Spirit Award, an honor given to a resident who embodies community spirit and gives selflessly of their time and resources for the betterment of the community.
A Canyon Lake resident since 1992, Shroyer is widely known as the community’s resident DJ. Through the years, he has participated in hundreds of Canyon Lake events, including Little League opening and closing ceremonies, Movie Nights, Parade of Frights, Taco Tuesdays, holiday events and tree lightings, the Car Show, National Day of Prayer, Easter events, Veterans Day events, and more.
Shroyer is also the founder of the Canyon Lake Golf Cart Parade and Toy Drive, an annual tradition that brings holiday cheer to the streets of Canyon Lake. For more than a decade, this cherished community event has collected thousand of toys for local children.
The city’s recognition reflects Shroyer’s decades of dedication and the impact he continues to make on the community.
In addition to being presented with an award, Shroyer’s name will be inscribed on the city’s official Jordan Ehrenkranz Spirit Award plaque, which features all past recipients and is displayed at City Hall.
The Jordan Ehrenkranz Spirit Award was established in 2021 to honor the late Councilman Jordan Ehrenkranz, who served on the Canyon Lake City Council for more than 12 years, including four terms as mayor. He was reelected in 2020 and is the only council member to be elected four terms. Prior to that, Ehrenkranz had served on the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Board for five years. He was appointed president of the board three times.
Ehrenkranz was a Canyon Lake property owner for more than fifty years and a full-time resident for more than 25 years. He passed away on May 4. He was 87 years old.
