The season of giving arrived early for one Canyon Lake couple thanks to the caring members of the Canyon Lake Association of Men (CLAMS), who recently stepped up to assist the couple in their time of need.
While visiting the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association (POA), CLAMS secretary Kevin Cochran met a gentleman who had been notified by the POA that his property required immediate maintenance. The resident, Bill Byers, was informed that he needed to trim 11 palm trees to avoid fines.
What Cochran learned next changed everything. Byers, an elderly resident who is battling cancer, had spent his funds on medical bills and didn’t have additional funds for the unexpected cost of having 11 trees trimmed. He feared he had no way of complying with POA’s requirements.
Moved by the situation, the CLAMS quickly rallied together to help Byers and his wife. They enlisted the assistance of professional landscaper Nicolas Trejo, who agreed to trim the trees at a discounted cost and cover the dump fees. Members of Canyon Lake’s Tuesday Work Group also joined in, teaming up with the CLAMS to remove all the debris from the property.
Members volunteered their time, strength, and teamwork—hauling branches, clearing the yard, and ensuring the property was brought into compliance. Their efforts spared the Byers family from additional hardship and stress during an already difficult time.
This act of service is a true reflection of the spirit of the season and the compassionate community of Canyon Lake, where neighbors look out for one another when it matters most. “This is what it means to be a CLAM,” club President Mark Inkrote said.
The CLAMS is a nonprofit organization that has been in existence for more than 50 years. With the help of volunteers, the organization raises money to help those in need.
