In response to ongoing community concerns and other quality-of-life issues related to unhoused individuals, and to ensure transparency and factual communication, the City of Murrieta has launched a focused initiative known as Murrieta United. This campaign brings together the Murrieta Police Department, City Services District, Municipal Services District, and city outreach to address issues collaboratively, proactively, and responsibly.
Murrieta United is not a single-day event or enforcement-only operation. Instead, it is a long-term, coordinated approach centered on community safety, compassionate outreach, accountability, and clear communication.
As part of this initiative, the Community Policing Team and city partners have been working throughout the city to address concerns, increase visibility, and engage directly with residents and businesses.
Recent activity since December 19 includes 23 pedestrian checks, 109 business and area checks, including parks and surrounding areas, and direct engagement with community members to discuss concerns at Pond Park and Warm Springs Park.
Murrieta United also focuses on long-term solutions, not just immediate responses. At Warm Springs Reserve Park, the city’s Municipal Services Department is taking additional steps to prevent ongoing issues, including installing a chain across the pathway to prevent vehicles from driving onto the footpath and into the ravine, installing new signage indicating that the park is closed from dusk to dawn, and evaluating the cost to enhance the parking lot gate to prevent vehicles from driving around the existing barrier.
“Murrieta United reflects our commitment to addressing concerns involving unhoused individuals in a way that is lawful, compassionate, and effective,” the Murrieta Police Department said. “Outreach services continue to be offered, trespassing laws are explained, and enforcement action is taken when necessary. Our goal remains to break cycles, not repeat them.”
