The Canyon Lake Fire Department selected Fire Engineer Jonathon “Jon” Sasse as the 2025 Firefighter of the Year.
During 2025, Sasse made significant contributions to the department and consistently demonstrated its core values of professionalism, respect, integrity, dependability, and excellence.
Sasse exemplified the highest standards of dedication, perseverance, and professionalism throughout the year. He overcame personal and professional challenges and emerged stronger and more determined, maintaining an unwavering commitment to the department and the community it serves.
Going above and beyond his assigned duties, Sasse actively mentored reserve firefighters by taking the time to teach, guide, and support their development. His passion for learning and professional growth was evident through his diligent study and the creation of detailed training documents that were shared department-wide for the benefit of others.
On emergency calls, Sasse consistently demonstrated professionalism, sound decision-making, and a calm, positive presence. In recognition of his dedication, initiative, and leadership, he was promoted to the rank of fire engineer.
Sasse joined the Canyon Lake Fire Department in September 2022. Prior to joining the department, Sasse served as a firefighter paramedic with the Morongo Fire Department.
