Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) will be conducting equipment testing at Railroad Canyon Dam during the month of January. These activities are a standard, yearly requirement to stay within dam compliance.
The testing involves opening and closing valves briefly and intermittently during this time. Operations will not affect flood control, water quality, or lake levels.
During valve operations, residents may notice a temporary rotten egg odor, which should dissipate quickly. Wind conditions may affect how far the odor travels and how long it lasts. According to EVMWD, the odor is caused by natural materials in the lake and is not harmful.
