The Canyon Lake Fire Department, in partnership with Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District. is hosting a free Firescaping Workshop on Thursday, February 5, at 6 p.m. at Canyon Lake City Hall, offering residents practical tools to help reduce wildfire risk while maintaining a beautiful and functional landscape.
This in-person workshop will focus on firescaping—a smart landscaping approach that uses strategic plant selection, placement, and design to help protect homes from wildfire. Attendees will learn what firescaping really means, why it works, and how thoughtful landscape design can play a critical role in wildfire resilience.
Topics covered will include the principles of firescaping and how it helps defend homes, which plants are more fire-resistant and best suited for the local region, how to design a wildfire-resilient landscape without sacrificing curb appeal, and practical and easy-to-apply tips homeowners can use right away.
Discussion will also include the 2025 Los Angeles fires and changes in state laws regarding landscaping.
Presenter Douglas Kent, author of Firescaping: Protect Your Home with Fire-Resistant Landscaping, will share expert insight on how to protect your home with fire-resistant landscaping.
