The Canyon Lake Lions Club collected more than 500 cans of soup during a weeklong Canned Soup Drive to support the nonprofit Helping Hands Group.

Community members were encouraged to participate by donating canned soup at several designated drop-off locations throughout the community from January 3 through January 11.

Despite having about 20 cans of soup stolen from three locations, the organization was able to collect more than 500 cans of soup.

“Canyon Lake is indeed a generous and thoughtful community that reaches out in so many ways to help others who are struggling,” member Cathy Kromer said. “The Canyon Lake Lions Club is proud to be a part of those efforts.”

Helping Hands Group, a 501(c)(3) organization, delivers free food locally to disabled individuals, the elderly, and people in crisis in Canyon Lake, Hemet, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, Perris, Temecula, Wildomar, and other neighboring cities.

The Lions Club continues its fundraising efforts with weekly Bingo events held on the first and third Sunday of every month at the Canyon Lake Senior Center. The cost is $13. Doors open at 12 p.m., with Bingo called at 1 p.m. A Bingo Bash is planned for April 12 at the Canyon Lake Lodge at 1 p.m. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The cost is $20.
