With more than 1,000 dogs held across the shelter system, Riverside County Department of Animal Services continues to operate in critical overcapacity for the number of dogs compared to kennel space. The department reported that kennel space had reached an alarming 230% capacity in February, creating urgent concerns about space.
To help relieve overcrowding and give pets a second chance at loving homes, all adoption fees remain waived at all shelter locations and include spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchips, and a collar with an engraved ID tag.
In addition to no-cost adoptions, on Saturday, February 14, dog adoptions will include a free Wisdom Panel Breed Discovery Kit, while supplies last.
“I see so many beautiful dogs at our shelters who would be wonderful additions to any family,” Fifth District Riverside County Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez said. “With fee-waived adoptions, now is a great time to add a loving companion to your life.”
