The Menifee Union School District (MUSD) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a $15 million transformation of Hans Christensen Academy (HCA).
While the campus is currently operating as a middle school for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year, this event marked the official countdown to its full reopening this August as a premier transitional kindergarten through eighth-grade (TK-8) academy.
The early unveiling gave local families a first look at the campus’s “future-ready” design and innovative learning pathway that will soon serve students of all ages on one campus. The TK-8 model allows students to remain at the same school for up to 10 years, fostering continuity, stronger relationships, and a consistent school culture.
In this unique setting, middle school students will have opportunities to serve as mentors and role models for younger students, helping to build leadership skills while strengthening the sense of community across grade levels.
“This remodel was created around a design learning pathway that will create opportunities beginning with our smallest TK students and transitioning as they move toward high school and into college and/or career,” Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Root said. “It represents our commitment to maximizing our existing resources to provide the best possible environments for our students.”
The project, which began in December 2024, features several major upgrades designed to support students as they grow from early childhood through their middle school years, including a new early childhood wing, modernized learning spaces, new play and sports areas, and future-ready technology with major tech and lighting upgrades in the library and throughout the campus to support 21st-century research and collaboration.
“Today feels like a brand-new beginning,” Principal Steve Melvin said. “Whether it is a student starting transitional kindergarten or an eighth grader preparing for high school internships, they now have a campus that inspires them to explore and imagine every single day.”
