Photo provided by Brad Morton.The Canyon Lake Enrichment, Activities and Recreation (C.L.E.A.R.) Foundation hosted a free Stroke Clinic at the lodge pool for kids ages eight to 15 who plan to try out for the Jr. Lifeguards program.
The clinic provided an opportunity for potential Jr. Lifeguards to learn the strokes and skills, such as timed water treading, for a successful tryout.
“We had a great turnout,” Councilwoman Kasey Castillo, founder of the C.L.E.A.R. Foundation, said. “It was awesome seeing the kids’ confidence grow as they prepared for tryouts. We are so grateful to swim instructor Nina Colas for donating her time. It was a perfect morning.”
“The stroke clinic was an opportunity for Canyon Lake kids to fine-tune their swimming in preparation for the official tryouts,” C.L.E.A.R President Bradley Morton said. “We are very pleased with the number of kids who already signed up for tryouts; however, there is still room. So reach out to the C.L.E.A.R. Foundation today for more information.”
Canyon Lake kids will have two opportunities to try out for Jr. Lifeguards. The first tryout will be held on Saturday, April 29, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the lodge pool. The second tryout will be held on May 10 at the State Recreation Area Lake Perris.
Participants will be required to swim 100 yards in under three minutes and tread water for two minutes. Scores will be recorded. Participants must be able to meet the California State Parks criteria.
Kids who qualified at tryouts will receive an invitation to participate in the Jr. Lifeguards program from June 19 through June 30 at Lake Perris. Bus transportation is sponsored by the City of Canyon Lake and will be first-come, first-served. A bus etiquette contract for the rider and proof of registration with Reserve California will be required.
In 2022, more than 40 Canyon Lake kids participated in the Jr. Lifeguards program and learned valuable life-saving techniques, boating safety, water safety, and teamwork skills.
The CLEAR Foundation is a nonprofit, philanthropic, charitable foundation geared at enriching the lives of Canyon Lake kids. The foundation was born out of a need for a hub to interface with the city, POA, water district, community clubs and groups, local businesses, and community members that want to contribute to a tax-exempt program that benefits Canyon Lake kids.
The goal of the CLEAR Foundation is to encourage healthy choices and good judgment through programs and recreational activities that promote conservation, lake stewardship, water safety, awareness, team building, and community involvement. For more information, email [email protected].
