Cal Fire is mourning the loss of Fire Captain Rebecca Marodi, who was stabbed multiple inside her residence on Monday in Ramona.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly before 9 p.m. Despite life-saving measures, Marodi succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. She was 49.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation and is actively working to contact persons of interest and identify a suspect. Investigators suspect that Marodi knew the perpetrator and are treating this case as a potential domestic violence incident, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said. Currently, the motivation and circumstances surrounding the homicide remain unclear.
Marodi dedicated more than 30 years of her life to the fire service, beginning as a volunteer firefighter in Moreno Valley in 1993. From 1994 to 2000, she served as a seasonal firefighter in both the San Bernardino and Riverside Units before being promoted in 2000.
In 2007, Marodi advanced to the role of fire apparatus engineer. She earned the rank of captain in 2022.
Throughout her career, Marodi held roles at the Emergency Command Center in Perris, Home Gardens Fire Station 13, Indian Wells Fire Station 55, Menifee Fire Station 68, North Rancho Mirage Fire Station 69, Temecula Battalion 15 relief, and French Valley Fire Station 83.
