Candidate withdraws from Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Board of Directors election

Candidate Lance Philips has withdrawn from the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association Board of Directors election. “I reached out to CLPOA to withdraw my consideration for the board,” Philips said. “Too many scheduling conflicts to start the process so the time is not right for me now.”

There will be two vacant seats on the board in May when the terms of Joe Kamashian and Jim Barringham end. Philips is one of eight residents who announced their candidacies earlier this month. Rita Bendlin, Greg Doherty, Carl Gardner, Kalon Morris, Alexis Prince, Tony Schwarzman, and Bill Van Vleet are still in the race and are hoping to be elected to the board.

In the weeks leading up to the election, Canyon Lake Insider will feature a series of questions to the candidates. During this period, residents will have the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates and learn what they hope to accomplish if elected to serve on the board.

The election schedule is as follows:

  • March 11: Candidate Orientation Meeting at 2 p.m. at the POA office.
  • March 12: Notice of meeting particulars will be posted, including date, time, location, and candidates who will be on the ballot.
  • March 13: Elections signs may be posted. Signs may only be placed in the community setback in the 60-day period prior to the election in accordance with the Election Sign Policy.
  • March 20: Member of Record Date; determines members entitled to meeting notice and eligibility to vote.
  • April 4: Notice of Annual Meeting, ballots, and statements will be mailed to members. Civil code requires they be sent out at least 30 days prior to the meeting date, which is May 12.
  • May 4: Last Day it’s recommended a homeowner mail a ballot.
  • May 12: Annual Meeting of the Members and Election of Directors at 8 a.m. in the Holiday Bay Room at the lodge. The meeting will be called to order and polls will close at approximately 9 a.m.
  • May 14: Alternate meeting date if a quorum is not met on May 12.

Only prime members are allowed to vote in the election. Prime members have one vote per unit/lot/parcel owned. In households that include a husband and a wife, the prime member is issued in the name of the husband unless otherwise directed.

The 2022 Inspectors of Elections are Jeff Price and Debra Crawford of HOA Elections of California, Inc. To view the Canyon Lake POA Election Rules and Regulations, click here.
