Swinging into St. Patrick’s Day: Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club hosts spirited tournament

The Canyon Lake 9ers Golf Club members welcomed 68 participants to their annual St. Patrick’s Shenanigans Golf Tournament on March 14.

Despite a blustery morning, players were in high spirits and adorned with emerald green-themed outfits. Shamrocks, leprechauns, rainbows, and pots of gold were scattered throughout the course.  

Each hole featured a special format, ranging from challenges such as using the driver only to using the 7 iron only. 

First place went to Helen Buckley-Sullivan and her sons, Mike Buckley, Steve Buckley, and Dan “Buck” Buckley. Helen is 91 years young and has resided in Canyon Lake for more than 30 years. She joined the 9ers Golf Club at the age of 60.

“Team Erler,” Lynette Miller, Jen Turpin, Karla Cook, and Linda Erler, rounded out the top three spots.

After an exciting day of play, attendees indulged in a traditional Irish lunch of corned beef, carrots, cabbage, and potatoes with a side of refreshing green beer and themed cupcakes served by the Canyon Lake Country Club staff.
