
Honoring its most skilled anglers, the Canyon Lake Bassmasters Club recently held its 36th Annual Awards Banquet at the country club.
For the past 12 months, anglers battled for the biggest fish and the most points.
Kevin Hugo was named 2022 Angler of the Year. Jeremy Evans and Mauro Megalo tied for second place. Rich Tucker reeled in third place.
Longtime Bassmaster Jerry Jones was named Sportsman of the Year.
The Big Fish of the Year award was presented to Mauro Magalo, who caught a bass weighing 8.80 lbs.
The club also announced its 2023 board: Chuck Moreno, president; Jeremy Evans, vice president; Casey Engel, secretary; Steve Retter, treasurer; and Jim Wright, weigh-master.
Canyon Lake residents who enjoy fishing and want to improve their skills in a friendly, competitive environment are invited to join the Bassmasters Club.
Monthly fishing tournaments are held from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Saturday that follows the first Wednesday. Summer tournaments are held from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. For more information, contact Chuck Moreno at 951-837-5941.
