Canyon Lake teen Matthew Thomas is a Life Scout in Wildomar Troop 2011. To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, Thomas must develop and lead a project.

For his Eagle Scout project, Thomas built a brick memorial and painted the Purple Heart and accessible parking spaces at VFW Post 1508 in Wildomar. The project took Thomas approximately 60 hours to complete.

To raise money for his project, Thomas collected recyclables, hosted a Halloween pancake breakfast fundraiser, and sought donations. He raised more than $1,500, not including the brick and supply donations.

Thomas recently completed his project and will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, February 21, at 3 p.m. at VFW Post 1508, 21180 Waite St., Wildomar. The public is invited to attend.
