Three Canyon Lake chair volleyball teams showcased their skills at the Sun City tournament on Saturday, March 9, with one team, Attack Pack, securing third place.

Team Attack Pack triumphed in five out of seven matches to secure the third place trophy.

Attack Pack players, Barry Ward, Pam Oskey, Pj Anderson, Louie Lancia, Eric Schrader, and team captain Ann Nickel, faced off against two other Canyon Lake teams and squads from Riverside County.

Attack Pack was awarded a team trophy and each player received a bronze medal.

The Canyon Lake Chair Volleyball Club was formed in 2008 and became a sanctioned POA club in 2009. The club welcomes new players ages 50 and better. Annual membership is $15.

Practices are held on Monday and Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the lodge. Games are played with a 20-inch beach ball with the players seated in chairs. The net is five feet high, which is two feet lower than a standard volleyball net. Each game is played until one team reaches 15 points or wins by two points.

Because players remain seated during the game, chair volleyball allows those with physical limitations to participate on a level playing field with those who may be more active.
