Canyon Lake teen Kendra Nathan committed today to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and accepted an offer to join the Ragin’ Cajuns Water Ski Team. The 17-year-old Vista Murrieta High School senior received a full scholarship.

The Ragin’ Cajuns Water Ski Team was founded in 1988 and joined the National Collegiate Water Ski Association (NCWSA).  Since then, the Cajuns have won seven National Championships, five NCWSA Team of the Year Awards, seven NCWSA Athlete of the Year Awards, and two NCWSA Leader of the Year Awards.

Nathan will be majoring in elementary education. She plans to teach English as a second language in a foreign country and hopes to one day transition from a water skier to a water ski coach.

“I’m so proud of my daughter and all of her achievements,” Tom Nathan said. “College is the next step for her and I’m looking forward to seeing her continued success as both a college student and a member of the Ragin’ Cajuns.”

Skiing since the age of eight, Nathan has won several national and regional titles. She competes in slalom, trick, and jump, and is currently an open-rated skier in slalom, trick, and overall.

Nathan will be traveling to Florida next month to compete in three qualifying tournaments, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the Jr. Masters at the end of May at Callaway Resort and Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
