Councilman Mark Terry will lead the Canyon Lake City Council in 2025 after being appointed to the position of mayor during Wednesday’s reorganization meeting. Councilwoman Kasey Castillo was appointed mayor pro tem. The vote was 4-0, with newly elected Council Member Josh Steeber abstaining.
A Canyon Lake resident since 2001, Terry was appointed to the council in 2022 to fill the seat vacated by Councilman Larry Greene, who relocated out of state.
Terry was appointed mayor pro tem in December 2023. In November 2024, Terry was re-elected to a four-year term on the council. His term as Mayor will last one year, while his council term runs through 2028.
Castillo, a resident since 2012, was first elected to the city council in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. She was appointed mayor pro tem in 2019 and mayor in 2020. Castillo’s current four-year term on the council ends in 2026.
Terry was also appointed to serve on the Fiance and Planning and Economic Development Ad Hoc Committees. Castillo was appointed to the Finance and Planning, Public Safety, LEUSD Articulation, and Community Engagement Ad Hoc Committees.
