The Canyon Lake City Council on Wednesday approved an agreement with the County of Riverside for law enforcement services through June 30, 2026. The current agreement for law enforcement services between the city and the county was effective for five years and expired on June 30, 2016, with the one-time automatic five-year renewal period ending on June 30, 2021.
The new agreement provides the same staffing level that is currently provided, which includes 24 support hours per day (approximately equivalent to five deputy sheriff positions at 1184 annual productive hours per position).
The agreement includes the standard provisions that the county has with 16 other cities that contracted for policing services, and preserves the city’s ability to increase or decrease staffing levels or to terminate the agreement upon written notice 12 months prior to the termination date.
The cost of law enforcement services is included in the city’s annual budget.
