The Canyon Lake City Council on Wednesday honored Aprile McKinnon as Citizen of the Month for May.
A professional DJ and vocalist, McKinnon has volunteered her services for many city and community events, including the city’s 9/11 and Veterans Day events, the community Cancer Fair, and the Woman’s Club Fashion Show.
McKinnon is the former vice president and publicity chair for the Mermaids of Canyon Lake Club. She has served on the Afternoon Tea, Witches Scavenger Hunt, and Casino Night Committees.

McKinnon will be serving as the first vice president of programs for the Woman’s Club 2023-2024 season.
Outside of Canyon Lake, McKinnon volunteers her time at events for seniors. “I believe music really touches a senior’s soul, especially one suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s,” McKinnon said.
McKinnon has been a resident of Canyon Lake for the past 10 years.
The Canyon Lake Citizen of the Month initiative was created in January 2021 to honor Canyon Lake residents for their service to the community. Each awardee is recognized by the mayor with a certificate. Community members are encouraged to nominate Citizens of the Month by submitting their names and a short paragraph detailing their good work to [email protected]. Residents of all ages are eligible to be nominated for this award.
