Canyon Lake City Council honors library volunteers as Citizens of the Month

Citizens of the Month, Kim Pike (standing in for Lynda Downey), Kathy Wood, and Gretch Blackford, are recognized by the Canyon Lake City Council for their volunteers services at the library.

Three Canyon Lake Library volunteers were recognized as Citizens of the Month.

On Wednesday, the Canyon Lake City Council commended Lynda Downey, Gretchen Blackford, and Kathy Wood for their dedicated volunteer services at the library.

Lynda Downey has been actively engaged as a volunteer at the library since 2015, primarily involved in maintaining donated items and the bookstore. Downey also served as the treasurer of the Friends of the Canyon Lake Library. Retired from a career in the field of dentistry, Downey currently pursues interests in art and entrepreneurship.

Blackford has been leading storytime sessions at the library since 2016. A retired schoolteacher, Blackford offers tutoring services to children within the Canyon Lake community. Additionally, Blackford contributes to community engagement through her membership in the Canyon Lake Woman’s Club.

A dedicated volunteer since 2021, Wood undertakes a diverse range of responsibilities at the library, including shelving books, conducting check-ins for storytime sessions, capturing photographs, and providing support during library events. Wood also supports and restocks the five Little Free Libraries in the community, one of which she donated.

Wood’s community involvement includes serving as a volunteer for the Family Matters Club and supporting the Canyon Lake Fine Arts Guild as an associate member. She is also a current member and the former purser of the Canyon Lake Yacht Club.
