Canyon Lake City Council honors local businesswoman as Citizen of the Month

On behalf of the Canyon Lake City Council, Mayor Kasey Castillo presents Debby Gagnon with a Citizen of the Month certificate.

The Canyon Lake City Council on Wednesday recognized Debby Gagnon as Canyon Lake’s May Citizen of the Month. Gagnon, owner of Canyon Lake’s post office, Pack, Wrap & Post, was honored for her volunteer work within the Canyon Lake community.

A resident since 1986, Gagnon has helped to organize numerous annual events, including the city’s Veterans Day Celebration and the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce’s Oktoberfest and Parade of Frights.

Gagnon has been a member of the Canyon Lake Veterans Day Committee since its inception and a 26-year member of the Chamber. She has served on the Chamber Board for many years. Gagnon has been a part of the Fiesta Day Committee, Jr. Women’s Club, and the city’s Military Banner Program.

In October 2020, Gagnon organized a candy give-back program. Through Operation Gratitude, and with the help of Canyon Lake residents, Gagnon collected 93 pounds of candy for first responders and deployed military troops.

This year, Gagnon came up with an idea for the city to honor veterans on Memorial Day weekend. Using Debby’s idea, Mayor Castillo and city staff created an event, which will take place on Saturday, May 29, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park in the Canyon Lake Towne Center. The community is invited to attend.

On June 1, Pack, Wrap & Post will celebrate its 26th anniversary. In 2005, Pack, Wrap & Post was named Business of the Year. In 2008, Debby was named Volunteer of the Year. In 2020, the Fiesta Day Committee selected Debby to serve as the grand marshal of the Fiesta Day Parade.

The Canyon Lake Citizen of the Month initiative was created in January of 2021 to honor Canyon Lake residents for their service to the community. Each awardee is recognized by the mayor with a certificate. Citizens of the Month are nominated by their neighbors and other community members by submitting their name and a short paragraph detailing their good work to [email protected] Residents of all ages are eligible to be nominated for this award.
