The Canyon Lake City Council honored the members of the Canyon Lake Quilters for their contributions to veterans and active duty service members in the community.

Founded by Kathy Barbay in 2022, the mission of the Canyon Lake Quilters is to honor and thank Canyon Lake veterans and active duty service members for their service by presenting them with handmade patriotic quilts. The recipients are chosen through free raffles and by nominations.
The quilts are presented during the city’s annual Veterans Day Celebration and periodically throughout the year. Whenever possible, the group will present the quilt during a small celebration at the senior center that includes the recipient’s family members and a patriotic cake.
Since 2002, the group has made 100 quilts. “Our goal is to make and present 10 quilts this year,” member Ronda McCord said.

The group meets to sew quilts every month on the fourth Wednesday at the senior center. Current members include Kathy Barbay, Ronda McCord, Linda Brown, Kathy Ray, Grace Ward, Van Warner, Edna Hornkohl, Maddy Prowse, Sally Issacson, and Jeananne McGouga.
The group welcomes new members to help sew quilts, as well as donations of patriotic fabric.
