The Canyon Lake City Council on Wednesday proclaimed September 11 a Day of Remembrance and called upon residents of Canyon Lake to honor the lives of those lost. Ilyssa DeCasperis, chair of the Canyon Lake 9/11 Tribute in Light Committee, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the community.
The Canyon Lake 9/11 Tribute in Light Committee is encouraging all Canyon Lake residents to light up their homes in blue lights in memory and commemoration of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. “One single light makes a difference, one display makes a difference,” DeCasperis said.
The committee has been given a limited number of gift cards to present to the residents with the most creative use of blue lights. Those who plan to participate are asked to post a photo of their home and address on the Canyon Lake 9/11 Tribute Facebook page.
In addition to lighting up blue, the committee is asking residents to come out of their homes with a flashlight on September 11 at 9:11 p.m. to observe a moment of silence.
The committee is selling a limited number of 9/11 tribute T-shirts for $20 each. They are available for purchase at Pack, Wrap, and Post in the Towne Center. Proceeds will be donated to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
